Victorian cabbies may add surcharges
Wednesday February 27, 2008
Cab drivers may get a boost to their income thanks to a recommendation that they should charge surcharges for late night, weekend and public holiday trips.
The recommendation comes from the Essential Services Commission, which has also suggested a $2 fuel levy to compensate for the rising cost of liquefied petroleum gas. The Victorian Taxi Association has revealed that the share of operating costs made up by the costs of liquefied petroleum gas is double what it was just three years ago.
This increase in taxi fares could be just the incentive needed by young drivers that have been looking to buy their first car or upgrade their existing one to take out a car loan rather than pay increased prices.
